Extremes in the Welsh Capital

A 5th consecutive year for the Extreme Sailing Series in Cardiff and again the Welsh capital delivered. Wind, rain, sunshine, crowds and spectacular racing.

Rolling straight into Cardiff from jumping off my dads yacht from a 2 week double handed yacht race was exactly what the doctor ordered. Fast, furious, bumper to bumper racing, cheers and gasps from the crowds at each turning mark, start and finish kept me wide awake and the live commentary to keep everyone on the edge of their seats.

I absolutely love commentating in Cardiff for exactly the reasons I have mentioned above. Being tangled within the crowds no matter the weather, feeling their excitement for what they are watching, hearing the gasps as boats came inches apart right on the finish line and seeing the whites of peoples eyes, makes me love my job.

Seeing the new GC32's foiling about gave great appreciation for how small the space of water they were sailing on and did exactly what it says on the tin....extreme!

Well done to Oman Air for again a dominate performance in consistency, which really stamps their authority at the top of the table and a real bench mark for the other teams to hit. Great to see previous ESS podium finishers Red Bull and SAP hitting the top spots all being decided in the final race.

Exciting times for the Extreme Sailing Series with only 3 Acts completed and 5 still to along with the introduction of 2 stunning new iconic cities being added to the mix. Once again OC Sport and the whole team behind the ESS delivered a stunning event and it is a continued joy to work with all involved within the series. Passionate, hardworking, fun, knowledgeable, supportive are just a few words of many that describe those involved.

Again the super talented Mark Lloyd capturing spectacular moments through the lens during the event and brings great privilege to highlight this report with one of those stunning shots.....epic work Lloydy. All images ©Lloyd Images

Wishing all of the team along with the sailors the best of luck as they head to Hamburg for Act 4.
